pregnancy and exercise….?
i’m 24 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. i’m not in near the shape i was in with my first. tonight my husband and i joined the Y, and plan on going frequently together. my 2 sisters threw a fit and said i couldn’t work out while i was pregnant (one of my sisters is currently 24 weeks pregnant with twins). i said i could, because i only plan to do light cardio and maybe lift light arm weight (5 to 10 pounds). i told them it would be better for me and my baby. i also reminded them that with my first pregnancy i was a fitness nut, i took pilates, yoga, tae kwon do, spinning, and dance classes and also continued to run, walk and weight lift until i was put on bed rest (for preeclampsia). they kept saying it isn’t safe– i say it is— especially since i’m not going to be doing anything strenuous — so whose right? is it ok to exercise even though i haven’t been exercising too much, or should i just let it ride til i have the baby?
If you’re physically and medically-ok to be exercising, go for it! It’s better to stay in shape now because you need all that stamina for labor and pushing. It’s all good. You did it before and know the limits.
